My best friend ended our friendship because I wouldn’t lend her my apartment for a week while I wasn’t there. Lending anything out makes me worried, let along my rented living space. She made it seem like I’d rather her be homeless and out on the streets, but I said ‘no’ because I know she has other options that make more sense, plus I’m tired of her taking advantage of me. Who’s in the wrong?
i don’t believe that either of you are necessarily in the wrong, but there are some things to be said about this situation: your friend hoped that you, as her confidant and someone that she could count on, would give her some added support in this time of need. i am assuming, since you didn’t expand upon her “taking advantage,” that you didn’t want to risk any damages to your apt. the most important aspect of friendship [as in any relationship] is the ability to be honest; you had reason to refuse her, you are always entitled to say “no,” but she also had the right to know why.
